Project Spotlight: Custom commission cloned dress from a favorite dress
I had the pleasure of working with a client to clone a favorite dress by creating a pattern from it and fit testing it. The original was a beloved and well worn linen dress that we drafted a pattern from and then dialed in the fit with a few changes to improve it.
We did two toiles in less precious fabrics for fitting and then then the client provided the blue twill for the new dress. The twill gives a more structured fit than the original linen which is an opportunity to imagine a new look, which worked well with the salmon top stitching.
When I came across the leopard print rayon at @swansonsfabrics I knew it would be a really fun pairing with the vibrancy of the blue. The dress is fully lined with the leopard print fabric for a smooth neckline and soft interior. It has inseam blue twill pockets.
What’s great about cloning a favorite piece of clothing and refining the fit is that you then have a tried and true pattern to make in all the different colors and fabrics for classic and varied wardrobe.

Have you been wanting to learn to sew clothes? Take this class if you are just starting out, need a refresher, or are looking to upgrade your skills! This class is open to beginners and confident sewists alike and is designed to be taken multiple times. All materials are included. Some sewing experience is required - you should know how to thread a sewing machine and run a straight(ish) seam allowance. If you are a true beginner, we recommend taking our Sewing 101 class first.
Sustainability Series: Mitered Corner Napkins & Serged Reusable Paper Towels // June 17th // 5:30-8:30pm // $65
We'll make mitered corner napkins and serged reusable paper towels - this workshop will cover two easy sustainable swaps in your home. With mitered corner napkins, you will learn tricks for neat corners that can be applied to garments too! Serged reusable paper towels are made of soft flannel, and are great practice with a serger to gain confidence with the machine.

I spent most of March and April working on an exhibition at MASS MoCA curated by Marissa Del Torro which features three artists’ shows in one. I spent a lot of time working with beautiful wool to fabricate Cecilia’s Quipu, a mediation on grief and the loss of knowledge through colonialism. I also was commission to sew red linen shirts in Sam’s piece about memory and intergenerational knowledge
